Insurance:  What the VYSA Policy Covers - Brenda Lodado, Bollinger Insurance

     Brenda Lodado from Bollinger Insurance will explain what is covered under the VYSA Liability and Supplemental Medical policy and what clubs and tournaments should seek to get on their own. 
  
Parents from Hell-Getting Parents to Work With, Not Against You - Dr. Alan Goldberg

     Dr. Alan Goldberg will hold a session on how coaches can teach parents to work with them not against them. 
      
Risk Management - Mike Sidlak

     Mike Sidlak of Maryland Youth Soccer will join VYSA to share his knowledge about the Risk Management program and specifically focus on concussion awareness.

Recreation Club Officials-Analysis of US Youth Soccer Survey - VYSA Recreational Commissioners

     This session will discuss the grassroots survey conducted by US Youth Soccer and its implications for rec clubs, and will include comments from Larry Monaco, President of US Youth Soccer.  This session will also discuss coaching education and other topics club officials may wish to raise.
    
Builiding and Maintaining a Soccer Complex - Karen Knott and John Burrill

Karen Knott of Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach and John Burrill, Executive Director of Massachusetts Youth Soccer, will team up to do a presentation sharing their experiences in building and running a soccer complex.

    VYSA Board Member Paul O’Connell and Mike Sidlak of MSYSA will discuss ways to prevent accidents involving goals. 
    
Give Me the Blueprint for Player Development - Gary Allen

     This session will talk about both the positives and negatives of placing players in travel soccer at a young age.  Gary will also go into detail about the qualities, benefits, and detrimentsof tournament play and how players should progress through the player development.
       
On Line Travel Registration - Peggy Borgard

     This will be an informal question and answer session.  Those involved in registering players and using the online travel registration system are encouraged to drop in and ask questions and/or share information and suggestions.
    
Referee Session-Angles/Spaces, The Real Game - Bill Dittmar

What a referee needs to look at during the game: positioning, tactics, players’ movement, ball movement etc.

     The President of US Youth Soccer will join VYSA to talk about US Youth Soccer, its programs and activities, including new programs and challenges as well as ideas and matters US Youth Soccer is currently considering.

Slump Busting -

     Sports Psychologist,  Dr. Alan Goldberg, will share what every coach and athlete should know about where slumps come from and how to insure that the occassional poor performance or two doesn’t take root and grow into a slump.
    
Background Check Procedures - Lisa Wilson and Julie Caramanica

     VYSA Administrators will conduct this session on how to use the KidSafe Background Check system and what to do when something is discovered 
    
Can the Hispanic Player Make the Difference? - Rene Miramontes

     Rene Miramontes will discuss the qualities of the Hispanic player and how they differ from other players.  He will talk about what to look for in player identification and will discuss in length the differences in communication styles.  He will discuss the differences in training the Hispanic player in order to maximize player performance. This session to be conducted in Spanish
 
Futsal - Alex Para

     Alex Para, President and CEO of the United States Futsal Federation, will join this years workshop to explain the USFF and how to get involved.
    
Referee Session - The New/Old Referee Academies Pre-Game/Professionalism - Andrew Chapin and Jim Conlee

If you want to upgrade and become a National referee, then this session is for you. Learn how to be a professional, give a proper pregame and take a look at the "new" academies and how to get to the National level.
   
Bouncing Back, Teaching Resiliency -

Dr. Dan  Friegang will conduct a session showing how to improve motiviation and self-confidence as a teachable skill contributing to peak performance.  This session is designed for players, coaches and parents to better understand how to utilize "resiliency"effectively in their everyday lives.

VYSA Board Members Roger Underhill (also President of Colonial Heights Soccer Club) and Bob Maynes (Coaching Director of McLean Youth Soccer) will discuss ways to run a successful recreational program in your club.

Contractor or Employee:  Determining the Classification for IRS Purposes - Jim Bonfils

     This session will explain the distinctions between classifying individuals as Contractor or Employee and reporting payments made for services when filing taxes.
     
How and When to Hold a Disciplinary Hearing and the VYSA Adjudication Process - Ray Greenberg

     VYSA Vice President and Adjudication Chair, Ray Greenberg, will explain the jurisdiction of clubs and VYSA and how to properly conduct a hearing. 
    
Learn to be a More Powerful Player - Pat McCloskey
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Room E24a
     This session will be part practical and part lecure.  Pat will go over the most up to date training techniques that are designed to maximize soccer performance. He will give practical demonstrations that will increase power, strength, speed and flexibility.  His methods are being used at major soccer clubs around the world.

Team Managers:  What They Need to Know and Understand - Debi Honaker and Lorelle Myer
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Room E24b
     Lorelle Myer and Debi Honaker, VYSA Board members will conduct this session and explain the responsibilities of being a travel team manager, from preparing player passes and rosters and getting permission to travel to preparing for each seasonal years activities. This session will be an opportunity for managers and club representatives to learn and better understand the online travel system. 
    
Referee Session-Handling, Hands On - Greg Barkey
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Room E25a and E25b
     Communication skills are important - and speaking doesn’t mean you’re communicating.  This session is designed for parents, athletes, and coaches to observe and practice skills for effective communication.
