RE: Mandatory Sexual Abuse Training

VYSA members are now required to comply with Federal Law S.435 Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017, that was signed in February of this year and became effective immediately.

VYSA’s Board of Directors has reviewed this law extensively and is required by the law to put into place a policy that adheres to the law and enforces compliance of the same. The first step in this process took place on August 8th, 2018, the VYSA Board of Directors unanimously passed the following resolution:

Any individual affiliated with a VYSA member organization to include board members, coaches, assistant coaches, managers and other volunteers or staff must complete sexual abuse training. Sexual Abuse Training must be completed through ABUSE PREVENTION SYSTEMS no later than October 1, 2018. Sexual Abuse Training must be renewed every two years.

VYSA will publish additional guidance to bring us into compliance with the law this fall

Sexual Abuse Training via a video module is currently available to members at no charge. Please see the following information on how to access the program through ABUSE PREVENTION SYSTEMS

In order for the club to access and distribute the free Sexual Abuse Prevention training to your members, the Club Administrator or Risk Management Coordinator will need to create an account with Abuse Prevention Systems at the Yearly Membership for $250 per year and set up your account and contact information.  Enter coupon code usys2017 on the payment page to receive the membership at no cost!

The name and email address of your club’s members will be entered in the Manage Users tab.  If your club has more than 20 users to be entered, Abuse Prevention Systems will import them for the club.    Instructions are on the VYSA website:  In the Awareness Training tab you will be able to create an email template and send the training videos to the selected users in your account.  The entire training video series and quiz takes approximately 1 hour to complete.

Upon completion of the videos and quiz, users will receive a Certificate of Completion.  This certificate should be saved by the user and can be uploaded into Affinity for record.  The Club Administrator or Risk Management Coordinator will also receive an email that the user has completed the training and it will be marked as completed in the Abuse Prevention Systems account.

If you have any questions about managing your Abuse Prevention Systems account, training videos or certificate, please contact the VYSA Manager of Membership Services at
