The ODP program in Virginia experienced another successful year. Record numbers of players, from around the state, were successfully identified and trained in the district as well as the state programs. Also, the highest number of Virginia ODP players in history, have just been recently named to the Region I Pool.
113 in total have had the distinction of playing well enough in the Region Tournament and Camp, to be recognized in that one program closer to the national teams: 50 girls (15-2000’s, 7-`99’s, 13-`98’s, 7-`97 and 8-`96’s) and 63 boys (20-2000’s, 15-`99’s, 14-`98’s, 8-`97’s, 7-`96’s).
The program has taken teams internationally for the past 10 years. Last year the program took four teams to Italy (2 boys and 2 girls). This year’s destination will either be Berlin or Brussels. Our `96 and `98 girls won the Region Championship while the `97 boys and girls finished a close second.
Amongst all the quality training sessions the individual players receive, the teams traveled to NC for games while also hosting other state ODP teams in Williamsburg at the prestigious Virginia Friendlies.
To be able to train with different and other high level players and coaches from all around the state adds a great deal to the overall development of the player.
