Executive Director Position
The Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS) is seeking a dynamic executive director for our historic League. The Washington Area Girls Soccer League was one of the first Leagues focusing on and providing competitive opportunities for female soccer players. WAGS is seeking an executive director who will help promote the League’s mission and vision. The executive director will be responsible for the administration, organization, planning and development of soccer activities related to WAGS and the needs of its members. This is a new position for WAGS.
1. Administration: Oversees and implements WAGS operations, rules and regulations, as established by WAGS. Implements MSYSA, VYSA and USYS rules and regulations as they apply to the League. In conjunction with the Board of Directors, supervises the League Administrator and other League employees. Serves as initial and coordinating contact for vendors and works with the League president on these contracts. Coordinates strategic planning by producing and coordinating the development of short- and long-term objectives and strategies. Works with Treasurer to prepare the Annual financial report. Provides for the Board monthly reports on the operations of the League. Keeps Board informed of significant issues affecting the development and delivery of programs and services.
2. WAGS Representation: Responsible for planning the League’s AGM. Attends MSYSA and VYSA AGM. Prepares written materials, as necessary, for the general membership and public. Develops and maintains positive relationships with the soccer community, general public, vendors, local government, state and national soccer associations, and League members. Maintains and fosters programs with local professional teams.
3. Development: Identifies, pursues and secures opportunities for grants, sponsorships and donations to support WAGS development, programs and operations.
Qualifications: Supervisory experience and experience in soccer administration required. Position requires excellent communication skills, proactive attitude towards resolving issues, the ability to work and form positive relationships with Board members, employees, clients, League members, and a diverse soccer community. Candidates must be highly organized and computer proficient in Microsoft Office; must have experience using databases. Should demonstrate leadership qualities and initiative and the ability to manage others. Candidates must be willing to work on weekends. Candidate must be willing to go through a criminal background check.
