VYSA NAMES PHIL SUMMERS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Fredericksburg, VA, March 25, 2014 -The Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) Board of Directors announced today that Phil Summers has been named Executive Director of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association and will assume his responsibilities immediately.
In this newly created role, Mr. Summers will be responsible for the administration of VYSA's programs and VYSA's new soccer complex being developed in Spotsylvania County. He will report to VYSA's President Denise Edwards and the VYSA Board of Directors.
Mr. Summers comes to VYSA from Cablevision Systems in New York City where he served in various senior marketing and sponsorship sales roles. Recently, he served as Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services for MSG Varsity, Cablevision's regional high school sports network. Prior to MSG Varsity, Phil was the Senior Director of Marketing and Sales at the National Football League where he managed marketing and sponsorship for various properties most notably, NFL Sunday Ticket, the out of market subscription television service. Phil been recognized by the sports television industry for his advertising and marketing accomplishments winning two Emmy Awards (2010 and 2011) and two Addy Awards (2013). Phil holds a BA from Wagner College in NY and a Master's Degree from the City University of New York.
Phil has served the soccer community for over 18 years as a coach, referee and club administrator in Eastern New York. He has been a board member for Monroe United SC (now Monroe Woodbury United SC) since 1998 serving as Director of Coaching, Head Referee, Director of Coaching Education and as a competitive travel coach with teams from U10-U19. Phil is a certified referee and holds a USSF D coaching license.
