The ODP is a national program that all 55 state soccer associations are empowered to host by US Youth Soccer. The program is designed to identify, develop and showcase the state’s top boys and girls from ages 12-17. The players tryout in July and August and then participate in 10 district training sessions throughout the fall. Players can also be added to the program through the VYSA’s extensive scouting system as well.
The culmination of the training is when all the players are brought together for two weekends of inter district scrimmaging. On the first weekend (Nov, 23 & 24) they will play district against district while on the other (Dec. 7 & 8) the players will be mixed and played together with those from across the state. The purpose of this is so the state staff, who are there to identify players for the state pools, can see how the players perform within their own comfort zone. And, how they adapt and adjust to playing with those from outside their comfort zone.
Besides playing other state’s ODP teams from North Carolina, New Jersey and Maryland to name a few, the 2000 and 1999 boys and the 2000 and 1998 girls teams will travel to Belgium and Holland from April 11-20, 2014.
