Improvements for ODP 2018-2019 Season
July 17, 2018
Fredericksburg, VA – The Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) officially announced that it has restructured their nationally recognized District Olympic Development Program to accommodate additional high-level players. VYSA has reduced the price of ODP training fees and the number of training sessions for this upcoming 2018-2019 season. Along with this lowered cost, what was originally ten sessions (8 district, 2 inter-district scrimmages) is now seven (5 district, 2 inter-district scrimmages). VYSA makes this change in hopes of minimizing player conflicts with club programs.
The Olympic Development Program (ODP) provides a vehicle for players to be identified, while receiving training by state staff, as well as playing alongside the highest competition in the state. The implementation of highly trained and qualified staff, as well as high competition of play, has proven to be a gateway for further development and exposure.
“We want to recognize our clubs in what they have been building the last number of years, the increased number of training sessions and programs that they have been implementing… [we] also need to be extremely aware of player burnout”, said VYSA Technical Director, Gordon Miller. “We feel that this decision helps to alleviate some financial burdens and time commitments while keeping the pathway to the top wide open.”
