Virginia NCS Week 3 Recap
This past weekend 16 teams in Virginia’s 17U boys division met in Round 2 on their journey to become the Virginia State Champions of the USYS National Championship Series, the most competitive and prestigious youth soccer competition in the Nation. Here are some highlights from the 17U boys matches played Saturday.
#1 seed McLean Green beat Portsmouth for a spot in the quarterfinals. They will be taking on FC Richmond Magic after their win over Fredericksburg FC. SOCA Elite beat Annandale Boys & Girls Club United in a good 3-1 contest. VA Legacy Soccer Club beat ABGC United Calcio setting up #4 seed SOCA to meet #5 seed VA Legacy in the quarterfinals.
#3 seed Braddock Road lost to FC Virginia. Loudoun and Commonwealth FC battled in a defensive struggle. Loudoun finished on top 1-0 and will take on FC Virginia in the quarterfinals. Lee-Mount Vernon prevailed in an overtime match with Beach FC and will meet Arlington after they won over Virginia Rush.
On the Girls side, first round highlights included top-seeded Virginia Rush moving on after beating VISTA Freedom. The 8 v 9 matchup was a very close game with Southwestern Youth Association toping Burke Athletic Club 1-0. SOCA will play Loudoun Red in the quarterfinals after beating Loudoun Black. Loudoun Red claimed a spot in the quarterfinals after winning over Alexandria. Arlington moved on to play Virginia Legacy SC in the next round after coming out on top over McLean White. Virginia Legacy had to battle NVSC in a close 3-1 match for their spot in the quarterfinals. FC Richmond bested McLean Green and will meet Beach FC in the quarterfinal after their defeat of the Roanoke Stars.
