Today: U19’s

This past weekend Virginia’s U19 elite teams began the quest to become the Virginia State Champions of the USYS National Championship Series, the most competitive and prestigious youth soccer competition in the Nation. Here are some highlights from the U19 matches played Saturday.

Sixteen 19UG sides faced off in round one and all 7 top seeds advanced but not without difficulty for some as Virginia’s elite sides showed how competitive our top teams are.  #1 seed VYS Phoenix moved past VLSC CCL Elite and will face SOCA CHAR Elite who squeaked by Beach FC 1-0 to advance. #2 seed Arlington Red had to fight off a serious challenge from SYA Cardinals Red before prevailing 3-2 and will face NRUS Elite in Round 2. FFC Black moved past SYC and will face #3 seed Herndon United in the next round and #4 seed Loudoun Red moves on to face #5 seed Beach FC in what should be a tight and hard-fought round-two battle.

On the boys’ side, 22 teams were in action Saturday and these top Virginia sides did not disappoint. Some highlights include ABGC moving past VIST Blackwatch 4-0 and will face #1 seed BRYC Elite Academy in the next round. Stafford Revolution fought off a talented NRUS side 2-1 and will move on to play #2 seed Loudoun Red. SYC Cyclones Blue defeated VYS Elite Red 2-0 to advance against #3 seed Arlington Red and ODS Riptide slipped by LFC Rangers 2-1 and will meet #4 seed SYA Cardinals in the next round. Other sides advancing include Beach FC Red, McLean Green, FC Richmond, DCPDA Liberty, Herndon Black and VLSC CCL.
