VYSA is getting ready for the 2007 VYSA Workshop that will be held Friday and Saturday, February 9 & 10, 2007 at the Richmond Convention Center.
The Workshop starts off Friday night with a President’s Reception that is open to all attendees. Throughout Saturday there will be sessions in many areas including Coaching Demos, Referee sessions, Administrative sessions, and much much more. [General VYSA Workshop Schedule]
This year we have invited several special guests. VYSA is happy to announce that Sam Snow, US Youth Soccer Technical Director, will attend to do a lecture and a coaching demonstration. The US Soccer Foundation will send a presenter to talk about how to apply for grants for all-weather fields. Mike Sidlak, Region I Risk Management Chair, will join us for a session on the issues clubs and leagues should know to reduce the risk to their organization, players and coaches. Dr. Dan Freigang, US Youth Soccer Coaching Staff and Psychologist, will again attend to share his knowledge about working with players, coaches and parents. A representative from Positive Coaching Alliance will present the seminar they provide for WAGS and NCSL. We will also hold sessions on Team Management, Effective Budgeting, Care and Prevention of Injuries, and Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers plus many more. Saturday afternoon we will hold an Awards Luncheon to honor those who have made outstanding contributions in the past. We are inducting six new members to the VA DC Soccer Hall of Fame, many of whom you may know. This year we honor Jay Hoffman, Rael Vodicka, John Ellis, Lauren Gregg, Kelly Erickson, and Gary Etherington. We have also selected the following individuals as our 2006 Coaches of the Year: Pete Cinalli as Girls Coach of the Year and Jay Hoffman as Boys Coach of the Year. Just recently selected to be awarded at the February 10th luncheon, are the Volunteer of the Year,Lisa Wilson and the Young Referees of the year, Brian Lapointe and Casssandra Ferarri. The surprise announcement of this year’s recipient of the Adele Dolansky Exemplary Service Award will also be made at the luncheon. [List of Award Winners]
