Meet the VYSA Coaching Education Staff

Q: “Who was your greatest influence as a coach?”
A: “Billy Gonsalves who played for New York in the 30’s and my teammate Walter Barr. I learned to play from Walter.”

Q: “Why are you involved in Coaching Education?”
A: “The game treated me well and I want to give something back. We have a ton of potential and we must be taught the right way. Better soccer players make better people.”

Q: “What is your fondest coaching memory?”
A: “There is nothing like seeing a kid develop, that is something I love. Coaching my daughters was extremely special.”

Q: “What is your worst coaching memory?”
A: “Seeing a player get hurt. It is part of the game, but gut wrenching.”

Q: “What is the biggest issue in developing soccer?”
A: “We never had coaches when I played; we learned the game from playing and observing. We coached by indirection till I took my licenses. As coaches, we must continue to develop our skills to develop the game.”
