The Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) and the Metropolitan D.C. Virginia Soccer Association (MDCVSA), as representatives of the United States Soccer Federation, have developed the Virginia Metro-DC Coaching Education Program. Recently VYSA approved a full time postion and would like to welcome Paul Shaw as the new full time Coaching Education Director.
VYSA will host the National Youth License course June 29 through July 1 and July 6 through July 8, 2007 in Northern Virginia. (Please note: All candidates must attend both weekends).
The National Youth License course is a US Soccer Coaching Course. The NYL focuses upon the nature of children and the adjustments adults must make to coach them. The course curriculum covers the ages of 4 - 12 years old. Each day of the course, the focus is on one of the traditional soccer age groups. Each day, appropriate age group players are brought in so that the candidates are able to work with them in a practice training session. The course combines both classroom (theory) and field (practical) sessions. It is ideal for anyone hoping to become a better and more effective coach.

VYSA will host the USSF National "C" License course this summer. The course is scheduled for the weekends of August 9 -12 and August 16 -19, 2007 in Northern Virginia. (Please note: Candidates must attend all sessions on both weekends).
The "C" License is a US Soccer National Soccer Coaching license geared toward coaches of travel level players. For more information please contact Jackie at the VYSA State Office at jackie@vysa.com.
VYSA holds tryouts each summer for ODP District training. The ODP is a nationwide program designed to identify, train, and showcase the top players in each state for Regional and National Team selections and competitions.
This years District tryouts are scheduled for the last weekend in July and the first weekend in August. Which weekend a player should attend is determined by the district in which the player resides.
Any player is welcome to attend the open tryouts in their respective age groups.
VYSA now has a program for training players born in 1996 and 1997. The VYSA District Training Academy will help to develop younger players in the age groups before they become involved in ODP. The curriculum for the academy will be based on technical skills development, flair, and individual mastery of the ball.
It is the VYSA’s objective to include everyone. However, due to facility capacity, the program is limited in the number of players it can accept. Players will attend an identification session to determine which players will be included in the program.
